Our Journey

Weetons was founded 20 years ago in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, by visionary farmers dedicated to showcasing the region’s finest local produce

This passion for supporting farmers, growers, and the wider community remains just as strong today. Committed to excellence in provenance, quality, and value, Weetons continues to uphold its founding principles

In 2024, we took our mission even further with the opening of our flagship store on Leeds Road, expanding our reach while staying true to our promise - Exceptional Every Day

Our Heritage

Founded in Harrogate 20 years ago, Weetons began with a simple vision: to celebrate the best of Yorkshire and British produce with honesty, care, and connection. At a time when small producers were under pressure, our founders chose a different path bringing food directly from field to table. Our West Park store, overlooking the Stray, quickly became more than a shop. With stone floors, wooden shelves, and space to pause, it’s a place to wander, share lunch, or enjoy a glass of wine while watching the world go by. When we opened in 2005, half our shelves were stocked from 35 local farms, each with a story to tell. That connection between grower and customer remains at our heart. From national awards to festive windows, recognition has followed but it’s the everyday moments that mean the most: familiar faces, shared stories, and small rituals that make life exceptional.

Staying True To Our Values

Since 2005, much has evolved, but our purpose remains unchanged. We continue to work with farmers, growers, and makers who share our values people who care deeply about their craft, their produce, and their communities. Built on trust and shared standards, these relationships shape everything we do, from what fills our shelves to the way we welcome each customer. Today, our Food Hall, Restaurants, Cafés, and Home + Garden spaces offer more than shopping or dining they’re places to slow down, savour the season, and discover artisanal finds from Yorkshire and beyond. While local producers remain central, we also partner with likeminded makers further afield, adding unique touches to our offering. For us, it’s the small things that matter most: coffee made just how you like it, a wave across the counter, expert advice from the butcher, or a gardening tip. Little moments that make every visit memorable.

A New Chapter: Expanding Our Flagship Store

In 2024, we opened our flagship store on Leeds Road, set beside Crimple Beck with views across open countryside. Sitting between the energy of town and the calm of the fields, it reflects both where we began and where we’re headed. Designed by Leeds-based architects Arkle Boyce, the building draws on agricultural forms with a steel frame, larch cladding, and a distinctive saw-tooth roof. Sustainability was central, with solar panels, natural ventilation, and a design that sits lightly in its landscape mirroring our long-held respect for the environment. Inside, the Food Hall is alive with colour and movement, from generous displays to the slower rhythm of browsing, sharing lunch, or pausing for coffee. Alongside it, our expanded Home + Garden store showcases over 2,500 seasonal pieces for living, gathering, and growing. Winner of RIBA’s Regional and Sustainability Awards, Leeds Road has quickly become part of everyday life a space for fresh food, coffee, and seasonal events.

The People and Places Behind Our Produce

The relationships we’ve built with our suppliers have shaped Weetons since the very beginning. Many are small, independent Yorkshire producers who share our belief in doing things properly. You can see it in the care they take and taste it in every jar, joint, or punnet. It’s their passion and dedication that bring real character and depth to the food on our shelves. As our offering has grown, that guiding principle hasn’t changed. We choose to work with people who care about their ingredients, who take time over their methods, and who bring integrity to everything they make. From handmade artisanal cheeses to local honey, every product we stock has a story behind it and a reason for being there.

Celebrating Every Occasion: The Barrows & The Secret Garden

Bringing people together has always been part of who we are. So, when opening our Leeds Road store, we wanted to create a venue where people could gather, celebrate, and mark all of life’s important moments. The Barrows and Secret Garden were designed with these occasions in mind. Styled with a blend of rustic charm and soft industrial touches, they provide a warm, versatile setting for every kind of celebration. Just beyond the private bar lies the Secret Garden, a tranquil outdoor retreat framed by trees, gentle lighting, and seasonal blooms. In spring, it bursts with fresh colour, and in winter, it glows softly under candlelight. Menus are carefully crafted around the finest local produce, florals arranged in-house, and every detail thoughtfully considered- allowing guests to relax and simply be present, whether for an intimate ceremony, a joyful gathering, or something in between.
